Get the Hair YOU want, Every Single Time – Things to Ask Your Hairdresser

“A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” ~Coco Chanel
One of the best ways to revitalize your life and look is to get a fresh new do! Sometimes however you don't always get what you expect. We've all been there: you walk into your hair salon hoping to get an amazing new hairstyle and you walk out feeling even worse than when you entered.Women and men alike get tied up in the feeling and appearance of their hair and to a large degree it affects self esteem and confidence. A bad haircut is enough to throw anyone off their game and feel uncomfortable in their own skin. That is why it can be heartbreaking to watch your hair transform before your eyes into a style or cut you're not thrilled with. The good news is that if you use the following tips and tricks, you'll get the exact cut, colour and style that you want, each and every time.
Here are a few tips to remember when trying out a new salon...
It's important to set your expectations ahead of time and prepare to be clear and expressive with your hairstylist the entire process through.
Before you hit the wash station, make sure your hairstylist examines your hair as is; the texture, the style, the growth pattern and so on. This will help ensure your hair is cut and styled in a way that works best for your hair type and lifestyle.
Let your hairdresser know whether you are high or low maintenance with your hair so that you are aware how much styling will be necessary at home to maintain your look.
Identify problems that you had with your last haircut and express them openly to avoid them happening again.
Be aware that your definition of “short,” “long,” etc. may be different than your hairdressers. Get very specific and clear with your lingo to make sure you are both on the exact same page and there are no “oh my god,” moments!
Be present and attentive during your haircut. The more attention you pay to your hairdresser, the more attention they will pay to you.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and speak your mind about what it is you want!
Of course even when we think of all of these things there is still a chance of our hair turning out different than we anticipated. To seal this gap, ask the following questions to your hairdresser during your next appointment:
Before the Cut:
Will this work with my hair type?
Will this flatter my face shape?
Will this work with my skin tone? (When colouring your hair)
During the cut:
What shampoo and conditioner do you recommend?
How often should I wash my hair?
After the cut:
What is the best way to pull this style back?
What styling products should I use to maintain this look?
How much of them should I use?
Where should I apply them (roots, ends, all over)? When should I apply them (right after I shower, once hair is somewhat dry)?
What styling tools should I use?
How should I use them? (Ask her to walk you through the styling processes step-by-step.)
What are some other ways I can style this cut? Any tricks for days I'm feeling lazy?
Do you have any other suggestions for me?
With all of these things in mind you're on your way to having the best haircut of your life! A visit to the salon should be a renewing and relaxing experience so remember to be positive, be informed and embrace the experience because your life is about to change!
